“Talent wins games but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” This quote said by the greatest champion of all time Michael Jordan.
I believe the New England Patriots show greatness beyond anybody ever to play the game of football. This team truly define the word greatness. Currently, as we speak, the Patriots will be entering their eighth super bowl of all time. Most by any team in history. This team has been looked upon, has been the greatest team to ever play the game. Many people ask today, what makes their success, how are they able to be so great, what could we use in order to have great as them? The Pats got nine reasons why there so great.
First, New England has very a deep roster. The fact they have various depth in various positions. The thing about their drafting technique is versatility. They have an idea to draft players that can do any position. For example, New England drafted Julian Edelman that was a QB at the time. However, he changed his position to wide receiver in order to give his offense a better chance of success. In doing this actually worked tremendously. He is Tom Brady’s most trust and targeted player on his team other than Gronk. Even the running backs can’t be just one-way runners, they must also be able to the receiver as well. That versatility is very difficult to stop. This makes New England very hard to stop and many teams today are still trying to conjure up something in order to stop this highly versatile team.
Secondly, they never overpay. Meaning in this way, they do not pay a player a high amount of money. They do not pay someone an overload of money, knowing any NFL player body is not guaranteed. Over payment for someone can lead to cap space being full, loss of money, and even could lead to loss of the job. The best player on their, Tom Brady is far most deserving of the highest paying contract. However, is he the highest paid quarterback? That would be a definite no. Tom Brady does not get a high or low amount of money. Tom and Patriots have structured is the contract in order for them to get the players they need, have cap space, and be able to take care of Brady financially as well.
Thirdly, the players they recruit is unique. Their whole roster is full of nothing but second and third round drafts picks. In addition, they even get players from low trade values. Many people never understood why the New England Patriots would do this. They have plenty of cap room and plenty of money. Simply put it there is three reason for this strategy. One reason is you do not have to pay them as much since they are the very low draft pick. So then that just helps save money for anything else they will need now or later.
Fourthly, these players they pick up can’t just be any ordinary players. These players have to be able to fit the patriot's system. This system is filled with hard work, dedication, and disciplinary. The Patriots run a fast paces offense, which requires a lot of diversity. So many players will need to be able to be adverse In order to play on this team. The defense has not been a powerhouse over many years, but the IQ on defense needs to be up to bar. They take weekly tests on their opponents, so that is just something you really need to be prepared for. So realize they are not just getting just any scrubs but ones that show uniqueness for their team to be great.
Fifth, there is another reason why they get the second and third round picks as well. New England Patriots very much pride themselves in development. They don’t need the first round great picks. They rather take the hard workers, the ones that slept on, and develop into first round pick. Because sometimes first time picks never turn out, Into what people may want it to be. One example was Malcolm Butler. I very well rounded last draft pick, who made a huge play in the super bowl in order to win it. This made him become known as being one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. He came from being one of the backups to be a starter of the New England Patriots.
Another thing that makes this team so great is their practice. Practice is key to everything. Every good coach knows practice is essential for perfection. However, just because you practice do not mean you will perform well when its game time. That is just half the battle. However, the other half is actually performing in practice how you would as if you are in a game. And that’s what New England makes sure their players are doing as well. And it’s the players that have to put in that work but the coaches as well. They create schemes and play scenario football in order for their team to be ready for anything. This making them obsolete when it comes to games time.
Not only that, but the disciplinary ship comes a long way when it comes to them being great. Most people will tell you, you do not ever hear of a New England player getting into trouble. They never get in trouble for fighting, never violate rules, and most importantly always on time and in attendance for everything. Their players are actually true professionals. They realize if they mess up one time, only one time, they will be cut immediately. This is to be true, for example, Jonas Grey was going to be a star. He was one of the first running back to enter a game with 0 TD’s and ending up with four by the end of it. He led the Patriots to a 45-10 win over the Colts in the AFC championship game. His career was quietly cut short when he decided to be late for a practice. Making the New England Patriots bench him and then cut him by the end of the season. New England runs a tight ship and that’s honestly why they been good for so many years.
Lastly, a huge thing that makes New England so great, is their leadership. Which is shown very much in Tom Brady. He is the reflection of the team. His emotions and energy drive the team. Whatever he feels no matter if he is mad, sad, or even irritated his teammates will show the same reaction. So he is a very well deserved leader on his team and around the league. He makes it easier to build a great team around him. Brady is practically an additional OC, which is an offensive coordinator so he can coach while on the field. He holds everyone to a higher standard. He also makes strong bonds with members of the offense. It makes it harder to let each other down. That is why the offense has been so effective for so many years. Regardless of how good the defense is. With Brady at the helm, the team can focus on the defense.
With all the pieces of this puzzle, this makes a team truly define greatness.
